Saturn in Leo July 16, 2005 through Sept 2nd, 2007
The keywords of Saturn’s influence are: responsibility, organization, work, duty, limitations, focus, karma, business, and structure. Saturn transits around the solar system and through all 12 Zodiac signs every 29 ˝ years or approximately 2 ˝ years through each sign. The last cycle was Saturn’s transit through the sign of Cancer from June 2003 through July 2005. President Bush had declared the Iraq War a victory that Spring 2003. But as karmic Saturn moved into Cancer we found that the so-called victory was false like our reasons for attacking in the first place. The sign that rules the United States is Cancer because the US is born on July 4th. George W. Bush is a Cancer born July 6th, and therefore, our karmic chickens came home to roost during the cycle of Saturn transiting Cancer heavily affecting our country, our president and especially our soldiers. Hopefully a new cycle will be emerging now that Saturn has entered Leo that lifts a lot of pressure off our country.
Looking at the past is how astrology is best able to project possible trends in the future since history tends to repeat itself. Saturn was in Leo 1916 to 1919 when the US enters W.W.I in 1917 that ends November 11, 1918. A period of US prosperity was ushered in with the approaching “Roaring Twenties”, and the birth of movies. Saturn again transited Leo from 1946 through 1949. W.W.II was over and the Marshall Plan was enacted to rebuild Europe. A difficult time again for Europe but once again the US economy explodes as the baby boomers are born and families begin to migrate to the suburbs. This was also the birth of television. Saturn enters Leo September 1975 through July 1978 just prior to the fall of Saigon in April 1975 and the US military retreats from the Vietnam War. And as history has repeated itself during the 20th Century, karmic Saturn’s entry into Leo is always after a destructive war and obvious heavy burden (Saturn transits through Cancer) for the US. But as the financial responsibilities are lifted after each war the US economy rebounds. The late 1970’s were in many ways like the “Roaring Twenties” with disco and cocaine replacing the “Charleston” and bootlegged liquor. The last cycle of Saturn in Leo set the stage for the personal and corporate greed that identified the 1980’s.
When projecting the future for America over the next 2 years we notice once again we have come out of an important and draining war to our economy. Hopefully, as history repeats itself our economy will be set up for another rebound. Cancer is a water sign which rules our emotions and feelings and since America and our president is ruled by Cancer, they as well as the American public has been through a rather emotionally and trying period these past 2 years with the news each day of more lost soldiers. But Leo is a fire sign, which denotes more anger, motivation and drive to pull ourselves out of our national depression and begin to look to a more hopeful future.
Leo rules entertainment and creativity and silent movies were being made for the general public with the first great movie release of “Birth of a Nation” in 1915 which took off after the first world war was over. Again after W.W.II we witnessed the birth of television and soon after, and much like the “Roaring Twenties”, was the birth of “Rock and Roll.” Saturn was in Leo during the height of the disco era and Studio 54. Pay cable TV was building credibility with it’s premier HBO channel and soon CNN begins broadcasting in 1980. We can only imagine what the next evolutionary stage of entertainment will be as Saturn once again brings our focus to the world of creativity and entertainment. Perhaps interactive TV, or more developed programming for the Internet and not to mention that HDTV and plasma flat screens will become more accessible and perhaps shift much of our movie audience out of the traditional theater to more home entertainment centers. Time will tell but the future should be interesting and more upbeat as Saturn has entered the fire and passionate sign of Leo.
